We serve Chicago as guides on the pathway toward upward social mobility for students (and their families) at all levels of schooling.

We know that racialized and minoritized students complete college every year with little to no practical experience in their field.

We also know that there is substantial need for education-related supportive services for students across Chicago, and beyond.

We connect these students with resources and autonomy to gain the work experience they need serving the needs of our students.

MISSION

Empowering Chicago's racialized and minoritized students, we are dedicated to forging tangible avenues for upward social mobility through the transformative power of education. Building on the insights of scholars such as Dr. Eve Ewing and Dr. Whitney Pirtle, we understand the urgent need to address the historical and ongoing impacts of racism and discrimination in education. Our mission is to break down these barriers, foster inclusivity, and cultivate a supportive environment where every student can thrive.

Inspired by Dr. Patricia Hill Collins' framework of intersectionality, we recognize the importance of addressing the intersecting systems of power and privilege that shape our society. By centering the voices and experiences of marginalized communities, we aim to create a more just and equitable educational system. Through our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, informed by the work of Dr. bell hooks and Cherrie Moraga, we strive to create a learning environment that values and respects all individuals, regardless of their race, gender, or class background.

Our mission is to ensure equitable access to opportunities that propel every student towards a future of success and empowerment. Using the framework of Dra. Sylvia Hurtado, we are dedicated to implementing evidence-based practices that promote student success and retention for all students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. By creating a culture that values and respects the diverse experiences and backgrounds of all students, we aim to create a more inclusive educational environment where every student can reach their full potential.

VISION

Our vision is a Chicago where every racialized and minoritized student is empowered through education, breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity. Insights of scholars such as Sarah Lawrence Lightfoot emphasize the power of storytelling and dialogue in creating connections and understanding. By sharing our stories and listening to others with empathy and respect, we create a supportive environment that enables each student to thrive.

DIVERSITY / EQUITY / INCLUSION

The Chicago Education Advocacy Cooperative is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive educational environment for all. W Dra. Gloria Anzaldúa, Dr. Patricia Hill Collins, and Dr. bell hooks, we recognize and honor the intersecting identities and experiences of our community members. We understand that these diverse perspectives enrich our understanding of the world and are essential to the cultivation of knowledge and empathy. By acknowledging the complexities of our students' backgrounds, particularly those from Black and Latino communities, we aim to create a learning environment that values and respects all individuals.

We are dedicated to addressing the intersecting systems of power and privilege that shape our society, as highlighted by Dr. Patricia Hill Collins' vision of intersectionality. Through our advocacy efforts, informed by Dr. Eve Ewing's work on racial and social justice, we strive to dismantle barriers that prevent marginalized individuals, including Black and Latino students, from fully participating in and benefiting from our educational system. We believe that by centering the voices and experiences of marginalized communities, implementing evidence-based practices, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of our organization, we can create a more just and equitable educational system that supports the success of all students.
